Dearest blues-lovers, blues-discoverers and blues-curious!
We loved welcoming you all to our events from September on in this dancing season. Whether you joined our beginners block, the community practices or the socials, your presence was felt and appreciated with much love and gratitude!
In the second half of the season, we have decided to take a different approach. We noticed that the beginners block was often quite empty, and there were also many more follows than leads. This, coupled with the fact that we have lots of wonderful dance schools offering blues classes at the moment — such as Stampij (Noord), Lindy Spirit (West) and Swing Philosophy (East) — has lead us to decide we, as the Blues Joint, want to focus more on community building and social dancing and we will now offer weekly blues socials at De Nieuwe Anita. That, sadly, also means that from January onwards, we will be discontinuing our beginner’s dance class.
Instead, we will continue learning together with you during our (almost weekly) Community Practice Sessions for all levels from 20:00-21:00, and grooving with you during our Backroom Blues social dances from 21:00-23:00, which is currently the only weekly social in the city!
We hope that we can become the social hub for bluesers from all schools and of all levels!
That being said, we do not want to leave beginning blues dancers or those who want to share the blues with their non-dancing friends feeling left out in the cold. That’s why we’ve decided to start hosting a monthly crash course! In these sessions on the first Tuesday of each month (starting on February 3rd), we’ll dedicate two whole hours from 19:00 until 21:00 to catching you up on the fundamentals you need to get on the dancefloor or to join a practice session. These will be open to anyone and everyone who is curious about the blues!
Thanks again for your infectious enthusiasm and sharing your moves with us!
Lots of love,
The Blues Joint
